our story

Quintessential DC neighborhood restaurant

Join us in the heart of bustling Dupont Circle, where Firefly has been serving contemporary American comfort food and drink to our friends in the Washington DC-area for over 20 years. From seasonal menus and innovative cocktails to our  whimsical atmosphere and welcoming vibe, Firefly is a neighborhood favorite that's sure to please.

We are committed to sustainability, from the use of salvaged barnwood tables and recycled wine bottle glassware, to our cork and crayon recycling programs. We support local farmers and purveyors using seasonal ingredients. Because we recognize the individual tastes and preferences of each of our guests, we’re proud to offer several vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free* dishes to accommodate all dietary needs.

*While we do our best to meet all dietary needs, our restaurant is not a fully gluten-free facility.

Our People

Rich Falbo | Executive Chef

Rich Falbo brings over 20 years of restaurant experience to Firefly. He holds a degree in hospitality from Texas Tech University and a culinary arts degree from New England Culinary Institute (NECI). Upon graduating from NECI, Falbo began his culinary career and honed his cooking style working with Hyatt Regency Resorts across the country, the Austin-based restaurant group McGuire Moorman Hospitality, and the Washington, D.C.-based Passion Food Hospitality. In 2017, he had the honor of cooking at the James Beard House in New York City.

Falbo’s penchants for charcuterie and butchery, sustainable seafood, and garden-fresh ingredients serve as his main inspirations for preparing comforting American cuisine at Firefly in Washington, D.C. As executive chef, his locally inspired dishes range from wild boar wings sourced regionally to vegan bowls made with vegetables pulled directly from Firefly’s rooftop garden. With each meal, Falbo’s goal is to ensure all guests leave his dining room feeling nourished, and return with an appetite for fresh, adventurous food.

Brendan Ambrose | Lead Bartender

Brendan Ambrose has over 20 years of hospitality experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. A native of Montgomery County, Maryland, Ambrose began his bartending career at Flanagan’s in Bethesda, Maryland before moving to the Eastern Shore. During his 12-year seaside bartending tenure, Ambrose was awarded “Best Bartender at the Beach” runner-up by The Shark on the Harbor Restaurant in 2007 and 2008, and was named one of Washington, D.C.’s “Top 100 Bartenders” by On Tap Magazine in 2011.

Ambrose joined the Firefly team in 2016, and currently serves as both the lead bartender and lead gardener. Leaning into Firefly’s commitment to seasonal, sustainable ingredients, he transforms 80 percent of the rooftop’s harvest into house-made syrups, cordials, bitters, and garnishes for the cocktail menu. Ambrose and his bar team create an atmosphere of hospitality and comfort to accompany the cocktails that he is proudly growing from rooftop to glass.
